Avid television viewers will undoubtedly be familiar with the Emmy-winning dramatic series “Mad Men.” Set in a New York City advertising agency during the 1960s, the show evokes a feeling of nostalgia even for those who weren’t yet born in those simpler times. Although the fashions of the time were fascinating in their own right, it’s the advertising campaigns that stand out as particularly memorable.
Vintage advertising signs capture the charm of a bygone era in a succinct, decorative way. They can be used to decorate an otherwise modern living area or added to a growing collection of antique marketing materials. These signs are notably prevalent in bars and restaurants, but they are just as suitable for enjoyment at home. Even if the products they advertise haven’t been available for years, there’s no denying their aesthetic charm.
The kitchen is one of the most-used rooms in any house, and it should be a fun, relaxing space. After all, eating a meal gives you a break from your day, allows you to rest your feet and fills your belly with good food. Warm colors, like golden yellow, work great in kitchens, and you can add other decor to achieve that soothing, down-home feel. Choose a theme for your kitchen, like vegetables, grapes and wine, or picnic food, and look for accent pieces and accessories to sprinkle around your kitchen to tie the room together.
One charming look for any kitchen is vintage 30s and 40s decor. You can decorate your kitchen like an old-time diner or simply an idyllic family kitchen. A great way to achieve this look is to decorate your kitchen with food tin signs that display family favorites like hot dogs, ice cream, eggs, Hostess cupcakes and more. Retro tin signs are fun and stylish, and can even be humorous if you choose. Add some character to your kitchen with tin signs today!
A few years back, I had the good fortune of receiving a beautiful oak bar from a friend of mine who was moving and no longer had room for it. I immediately designated an area of my basement to be the bar area and decided to decorate it properly. I stocked the bar with all the essential liquor and mixers, bought a mini fridge to store beer, and even bought coordinating bar stools so all my friends would have a place to sit. Still, something was missing – a little decor to liven up the area.
I decided that neon bar signs were too tacky for my rustic oak bar, so I went with retro bar tin signs on the walls. I found tin signs for a few of my favorite beers, like Anheuser Bush and Budweiser, as well as some retro Coca Cola and A&W Root beer tin signs to add some color and variety. The end result looks great, and all my friends look forward to coming over after work for a drink. The vintage tin signs add character and flair without overwhelming the space or looking tacky.
