Rustic themes add interest to your home decor, exuding a relaxed charm. Rustic was once an alternative word for ‘rickety’ or ‘cheap’, but home decor accents in the rustic vein have become highly sought after in the last several years, and are considered by some decorators to be the close cousin of the popular Mission and shabby chic motifs. Sometimes rustic decor is known as cabin decor or log cabin decor.
Since rustic pieces include a great deal of texture, many decorators suggest their use as accent pieces only-so the pieces stand out and are fully appreciated. Another frequent decorating technique is to restrict the rustic theme to one room or area of the home, so as not to appear overwhelming or overly busy.
