Reproduction Tin Sign – Chrysler Plymouth

With Father’s Day around the Conor I have been looking for a gift for my husband, and then I found this authentic reproduction Chrysler Plymouth tin sign for his man cave. Our son and him spend a lot of time there.

The Plymouth automobile was introduced on July 7, 1928. It was the Chrysler Corporation’s first entry in the low-priced field, which at the time was dominated by Chevrolet and Ford. Plymouths were actually priced a little higher than the competition, but they offered standard features such as internal expanding hydraulic brakes that the competition did not provide. Plymouths were originally sold exclusively through Chrysler dealerships. The logo featured a rear view of the Mayflower ship which landed at Plymouth Rock. However, the Plymouth brand name came from Plymouth Binder Twine, chosen by Joe Frazer for its popularity among farmers.

The origins of the first Plymouth can be traced back to the Maxwell automobile. When Walter P. Chrysler took over control of the trouble-ridden Maxwell-Chalmers car company in the early 1920s, he inherited the Maxwell as part of the package. After he used the company’s facilities to help create and launch the Chrysler car in 1924, he decided to create a lower-priced companion car. So for 1926 the Maxwell was reworked and re-badged as the low-end Chrysler “52″ model. In 1928, the “52″ was once again redesigned to create the Chrysler-Plymouth Model Q. The “Chrysler” portion of the nameplate was dropped with the introduction of the Plymouth Model U in 1929.

Tin Sign – Everyone needs something to believe in

Beer is the world’s oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic beverage and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea. It is produced by the brewing and fermentation of starches, mainly derived from cereal grains—most commonly malted barley, although wheat, maize (corn), and rice are widely used. Most beer is flavoured with hops, which add bitterness and act as a natural preservative, though other flavourings such as herbs or fruit may occasionally be included.
Today, the brewing industry is a global business, consisting of several dominant multinational companies and many thousands of smaller producers ranging from brewpubs to regional breweries. You have companies like Coors, Budweiser, Miller, Samuel Adams, and many other ones. The basics of brewing beer are shared across national and cultural boundaries. Beers are commonly categorized into two main types—the globally popular pale lagers, and the regionally distinct ales.

Tin Sign – 3 Stooges KnuckleHeads Garage

posted by pbwethy @ 12:00 PM
May 25, 2010

I remember watching the 3 stooges and laughing most of day. So here is some history on the 3 Stooges.

The Three Stooges were an American vaudeville and comedy act of the early to mid–20th century best known for their numerous short subject films. Their hallmark was physical farce and extreme slapstick. In films, the stooges were commonly known by their first names: “Moe, Larry, and Curly” and “Moe, Larry, and Shemp,” among other lineups. The film trio was originally composed of Moe Howard, brother Shemp Howard and longtime friend Larry Fine. Curly Howard replaced brother Shemp, who later returned when Curly suffered a debilitating stroke in 1946.

After Shemp’s death in 1955, he was replaced by comedian Joe Besser, after the use of stuntman Joe Palma to record several “Shemp” shorts after his death. Eventually Joe “Curly-Joe” DeRita (born Joseph Wardell) replaced Joe Besser. Larry suffered a serious stroke in 1970, and was unable to continue performing. Emil Sitka, a longtime actor in Stooge comedies, was contracted to replace Larry, but no film was ever made withhim in the role, although publicity photographs exist of him withhis hair combed similarly to Larry’s, posing with Moe and Curly-Joe . However, Larry’s paralyzing stroke in 1970 effectively marked the end of the act. He died in January 1975. Moe died of cancer a few months later.

This 3 stooges tin sign makes a great gift and reminds us of days gone by but not forgotten. So remember dad on fathers day.

Reproduction Tin Signs – Last Chance Gas

Here is some history of what gas stations are called in other countries. So next time your gas gage is near empty think how far the next station is before going by the last one or you might end up walking.

A petrol station, filling station, gas station, fueling station, service station, garage, gasbar, petrol pump or petrol bunk (India) is a facility which sells fuel and lubricants for motor vehicles. The most common fuels sold are petrol (known as gasoline in Canada and the U.S.) or diesel fuel.

Fuel dispensers are used to pump petrol (gasoline in Canada and U.S.), diesel, CNG, CGH2, HCNG, LPG, LH2, ethanol fuel, biofuels like biodiesel, kerosene, or other types of fuel into vehicles. Fuel dispensers are also known as bowsers (in Australia), petrol pumps (in Commonwealth countries), or gas pumps (in North America).

Many filling stations also have small “convenience stores,” and some also sell propane or butane and have added shops to their primary business. Conversely, some chain stores—supermarkets, discount superstores, warehouse clubs, and traditional convenience stores—offer filling stations on premises.

The term “gas station” is mostly used in the Canada and the United States, where the fuel is known as “gasoline” or “gas”. In some regions of Canada, the term “gas bar” is used. Elsewhere in the English-speaking world, where the fuel is usually known as “petrol”, the form “petrol station” or “petrol pump” is used. In the United Kingdom and South Africa “garage” is still commonly used, even though the petrol station may have no service/maintenance facilities which would justify this description. Similarly, in Australia, the term service station (“servo”) describes any petrol station. In Japanese English, it is called a “gasoline stand”. In Indian English, it is called a petrol pump or a petrol bunk. In some regions of America and Australia, filling stations have a mechanic on duty, but this is uncommon in other parts of the world.

Next time you need to pick up a few things from the store like bread, milk and need gas to remember you can stop at a local convenience store and get what you need all in one stop.  This authentic reproduction sign makes a great gift for any dad.

Parking Tin sign – Soft Serve Ice Cream history

posted by pbwethy @ 12:00 PM
May 19, 2010

The first commercial offering of soft serve ice cream was in 1938 by J.F. “Grandpa” McCullough and his son Alex McCullough, future co-founders of the Dairy Queen chain of soft serve and fast food restaurants.

Soft serve is generally lower in milk-fat (3% to 6%) than ice cream (10% to 18%) and is produced at a temperature of about −4 °C compared to ice cream, which is stored at −15 °C. A warmer temperature allows the taste buds to detect more flavor. Soft serve contains air introduced at the time of freezing. The air content, called overrun, can vary from 0% to up to 60% of the total volume of finished product. The amount of air alters the taste of the finished product. Product with low quantities of air has a heavy, icy taste and appears more yellow. Product with higher air content tastes creamier, smoother and lighter and appears whiter. The optimum quantity of air is determined by the other ingredients and individual taste. It is generally accepted that the ideal air content should be between 33% and 45% of volume. More than this and the product loses taste, tends to shrink as it loses air and melts more quickly than that with less air.

All ice cream including soft serve must be frozen quickly to avoid crystallization. With soft serve, this is accomplished by a special machine at the point of sale. Pre-mixed product is introduced to the storage chamber of the machine where it is kept at +3°C. When product is drawn from the draw valve, fresh mix combined with the targeted quantity of air is introduced to the freezing chamber either by gravity or pump. It is then churned and quick frozen and stored until require.

Here is a little history of soft serve ice cream. I know in the summer time I always want to go have ice cream. This ice cream parking tin sign makes a great gift.

Lyrics to Flaming Heart :  M. Ward
Well I’m trying hard to pass the time but I just got more time to kill
You know the flaming heart can’t get his fill
But the flaming heart will try and try as he will

And the flaming eyes I had are gone, they went out with the thrill
You know the flaming heart can’t get his fill
But the flaming heart will try and try as he will

Oh, I got a flaming heart
Oh, I got a flaming heart
I gotta roll like a tire
I’ve got a love that’s mighty like a rose

And the flaming stars I had are gone
They burned out over the hill
You know the flaming heart can’t get his fill
But the flaming heart will try and try as he will

Oh, I got a flaming heart
Oh, I got a flaming heart
I gotta roll like a tire
I’ve got a love that’s mighty like a rose

Just a change of pace for my readers. If their is something you would like to make a comment on please do so. This license plate tag makes a great gift for anyone.

License Plate – Boston Terrier – Max

posted by pbwethy @ 12:00 PM
May 11, 2010

Max is a Boston Terrier, he’s our dog. Max was taken to the vet. yesterday with trouble breathing. The vet says he has fluid on the lungs and congestive heart problems. Max is a 11 years old we have had him since the day he was born. It’s hard to watch him just lay their and struggle for air.  Max is one of 3 from that litter. Sara is still with us. Peanut died almost 2 years ago of seizures. Their mom went on Dec. 3rd 2006 and is still missed.  Some people say their just dogs, but they become part of your family.   Each time we lose one my heart breaks.

So if you have a special friend remember them on a license plate sign.

Decal Sign – Hot Air Ballon

posted by pbwethy @ 12:00 PM
May 5, 2010

The hot air balloon is the oldest successful human-carrying flight technology and is a subset of balloon aircraft.

On Nov 21, 1783, in Paris, France, the first untethered  manned flight was made by Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and François Laurent d’Arlandes in a hot air balloon created by the Montgolfier brothers. Recently, balloon envelopes have been made in all kinds of shapes, such as hot dogs, rocket ships, and the shapes of commercial products. Hot air balloons that can be propelled through the air rather than just being pushed along by the wind are known as airships or, more specifically, thermal airships.

A hot air balloon consists of a bag called the envelope that is capable of containing heated air. Suspended beneath is a gondola or wicker basket , which carries passengers and (usually) a source of heat, in most cases an open flame. The heated air inside the envelope makes it buoyant since it has a lower density than the relatively cold air outside the envelope. Unlike gas balloons, the envelope does not have to be sealed at the bottom since the air near the bottom of the envelope is at the same pressure as the surrounding air. In today’s sport balloons the envelope is generally made from nylon fabric and the mouth of the balloon (closest to the burner flame) is made from fire resistant material such as Nomex.

This hot air ballon decal makes a great gift for anyone.

Decal Signs – Volleyball

posted by pbwethy @ 12:00 PM
May 4, 2010

Volleyball is an Olympic team sport in which two teams of 6 players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team’s court under organized rules. This article focuses on competitive indoor volleyball; numerous other variations of volleyball have developed, most notably the Olympic spin-off sport beach volleyball.

The complete rules are extensive. But simply, play proceeds as follows: A player on one of the teams begins a rally by serving the ball , from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team’s court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. They may touch the ball as many as three times. Typically, the first two touches are to set up for an attack, an attempt to direct the ball back over the net in such a way that the serving team is unable to prevent it from being grounded in their court.

The rally continues, with each team allowed as many as three consecutive touches, until either  a team makes a kill, grounding the ball on the opponent’s court and winning the rally or a team commits a fault and loses the rally. The team that wins the rally is awarded a point, and serves the ball to start the next rally. A few of the most common faults include:causing the ball to touch the ground outside the opponents’ court or without first passing over the net;
catching and throwing the ball; double hit: two consecutive contacts with the ball made by the same player;
four consecutive contacts with the ball made by the same team.
The ball is usually played with the hands or arms, but players can legally strike or push the ball with any part of the body.

A number of consistent techniques have evolved in volleyball, including spiking and blocking as well as passing, setting, and specialized player positions and offensive and defensive structures.

This window decal comes in 12 colors and 3 sizes makes a great gift.

Decal Sign – Turtle

posted by pbwethy @ 12:00 PM
May 3, 2010

Turtles are reptiles of the order Testudines (the crown group of the superorder Chelonia), characterised by a special bony or cartilaginous shell developed from their ribs that acts as a shield. “Turtle” may either refer to the Testudines as a whole, or to particular Testudines which make up a form taxon that is not monophyletic—see also sea turtle, terrapin, tortoise, and the discussion below.

The order Testudines includes both extant (living) and extinct species. The earliest known turtles date from 215 million years ago, making turtles one of the oldest reptile groups and a more ancient group than lizards and snakes. Of the many species alive today some are highly endangered.

Like other reptiles, turtles are ectotherms—varying their internal temperature according to the ambient environment, commonly called cold-blooded. However, leatherback sea turtle have noticeably higher body temperature than surrounding water because of their high metabolic rate.

Like other amniotes (reptiles, dinosaurs, birds, and mammals), they breathe air and do not lay eggs underwater, although many species live in or around water. The largest turtles are aquatic.

Would it not be great to give a child (child at heart) a turtle decal in its favorite color to put it on their window. These decals come in 3 sizes and 12 colors.
