POW/MIA Recognition Day

When : Third Friday of September
POW/MIA Recognition Day is a day of remembrance and hope for the speedy and safe return of American Prisoners of War, and those still Missing in Action. It also seeks the return of the remains of fallen soldiers.
The first official commemoration of POW/MIAs was July 18, 1979. It was the result of resolutions passed in Congress. The first national ceremony was held on this date. Over the next several years, it was held in varying dates of the year. Finally, in 1986, The National League of Families proposed the third Friday in September as a day to recognize and remember POW/MIAs. This date was selected, as it is not associated with any wars. Each year, the president of the United States issues a proclamation on this day.
Did you know? Federal law requires the POW/MIA flag to be flown on the following days:

Armed Forces Day, May 16
Memorial Day, May 25
Flag Day, June 14
Independence Day, July 4
POW/MIA Day, 3rd Friday of September
Veterans Day, Nov. 11
You will also notice the POW/MIA flag flown at all US Post office buildings, Veterans Administration, military memorial facilities, and many U.S. government buildings.
Please take a few moments today, to remember our missing soldiers, and those held as prisoners of war. Attend a ceremony in your area. Say a prayer for POWs and MIAs. Also, write to your senators and congressman to urge continued and increased effort towards bringing every service man and woman home.

Please remember are troops overseas. This tin sign makes a great gift.

Reproduction Tin Sign - Lady Luck

posted by pbwethy @ 12:00 PM
December 29, 2009

I saw her smile and ever since I’ve been a beggar then a prince
That’s the legend of old Lady Luck
A pot of gold a phantom trail a ship of dreams that never sail
That’s the legend of old Lady Luck

Run out nowhere in the night I see her face so fair
But when I reach to hold her tight the lady isn’t there
Today my castles look so tall tomorrow at my feet they fall
That’s the legend of old Lady Luck

They say there’s fortune love and fame if you but call the lady’s name
That’s the legend of old Lady Luck
I’ve heldf her hand up like a ghost she’s not there when I need her most
The legend of old Lady Luck

I tried to catch the lady’s glance I called her name aloud
But when I reach to hold her tight she’ll vanish in the crowd
Another day another town I’ll hear the rustle of her gown
That’s the legend of old Lady Luck

Marion Lee “Mickey” Thompson (December 7, 1928 - March 16, 1988) was an American off-road racing legend. He won many championships as a racer, and later formed sanctioning bodies SCORE International and Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group (MTEG). He also raced in dragsters and land speed record automobiles.

Thompson was born in Alhambra, California. He was known universally as “Mickey.” In his early twenties, he worked for the Los Angeles Times newspaper while becoming involved in the new sport of drag racing. He developed a brilliant career as both a driver and an innovative automotive technician; later as a designer, manufacturer and seller of racing and performance equipment. In addition to being a drag racing champion, Mickey Thompson set more speed and endurance records than any other man in automotive history. He is credited with designing and building the first slingshot dragster. Thompson also was noted for being the first manager of Lions Drag Strip near Long Beach, California in 1955.

In 1960, at the Bonneville Salt Flats, Thompson achieved international fame when he became the first American to break the 400mph barrier hitting 406.60 mph surpassing John Cobb’s one-way Land speed record of 402mph. In 1963 Thompson traveled to England where, along with Dante Duce, he demonstrated his Top Fuel Harvey Aluminum Special dragster at the Brighton Speed Trials. His Ford-powered dragster was then displayed at the Racing Car Show in London in January 1964.

In 1965 he published “Challenger: Mickey Thompson’s own story of his life of speed.” In 1968, he redesigned the Funny Car, and his vehicle went on to win the 1969 NHRA Spring Nationals and NHRA Nationals for driver Danny Ongais. In his long career, Thompson raced everything from stock cars to off-road vehicles and engineered numerous competition engines. He went into the performance aftermarket business in the early 1960s and then, in 1963 he created “Mickey Thompson Performance Tires” that developed special tires for racing including for Indianapolis 500 competitors.

Thompson founded SCORE International in 1973, a sanctioning body to oversee off-road racing across North America. He and his wife Trudy formed the “Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group” (MTEG) which ran an indoor motocross and off-road vehicle racing show and competition that brought the sport from the back-country terrain to stadiums in the heavily populated metropolitan areas.

License Plate - Country till I Die

Country ‘Til I Die Lyrics
Artist(Band):John Anderson

I got an invite to a Saturday night
Shindig way up town
You know old John likes to have his fun
I couldn’t turn a party down

The band was playing some highfalutin music
I’d never heard before
Everybody there seemed to like it a lot
But I was headed for the door

Then somebody had the nerve, to call in orderves
Like something from a real bad dream
On my dish was a little piece of fish
Some rice and three green peas

I’ve never had a taste for the social graces
The way some folks do
I’ve got problems, doctor can you solve ‘em
Would you give me a clue

He said I can’t treat a man in your condition
As he looked me in the eye
All I see, is John you’ll be
Country ’til you die

Chorus:
Country ’til you die
Every bone in your body is countrified
It runs in the family, and you can say that with pride
It’s in the way you look, the way you walk and talk
Down to the truck you drive
You’re just gonna be country ’til you die

(Instrumental)

Yeah…(Chorus)

Yeah, I’m just gonna be country ’til I die

For all you coutry fans here is a license plate tag for you.

“Leroy The Redneck Reindeer”   By Joe Diffe

Well you’ve all heard the story
About Rudolph and his nose
Well I’ll tell you a Christmas tell
That never has been told
Well you may think you’ve heard it all
But you ain’t heard nothin’ yet
About that crazy Christmas
That the North Pole can’t forget

Rudolph was under the weather
And had to call in sick
So he got on the horn
To his cousin Leroy
Who lived out in the sticks
He said Santa’s really counting on me
And I hate to pass the buck
Leroy said Hey I’m on my way
And he jumped in his pick-up truck
When Leroy got to the North Pole
All the reindeer stiggered and laughed
They never seen a deer in overalls
And a John Deer tracktor hat
Well Santa stepped in
And said just calm down
Cuz we all got a job to do
Like it or not Leroy’s in charge
And he’s gonna be leading you
And it was

Leroy The Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Delivering toys to all the good ol’ boys
And girls along the way
He’s just a down home party animal
Two Steppin all across the sky
He makes jingle bells with the rebel yell
And made history that night

Before that night was over
Leroy had changed there tune
He had them scootin a holf
On every single roof
By the light of a neon moon
Santa wrapped his bad with the dixie flag
He as having the time of his life
You could here him call
Merry Chistmas Yall
And all of yall a goodnight
And it was

Leroy The Redneck Reindeer
Hooked to the front of the sleigh
Delivering toys to all the good ol’ boys
And girls along the way
He’s just a down home party animal
Two Steppin all across the sky
He makes jingle bells with the rebel yell
And made history that night

He makes Jingle Bells with the rebel yell
And made history that night.

Well It is only 2 days before christmas. This license plate tag makes a great gift.

License Plate - Light House

posted by pbwethy @ 12:00 PM
December 22, 2009

It is not so easy to define exactly what we mean by a lighthouse, and various organizations and individuals have used very different definitions when describing or classifying lighthouses. Clearly, all lighthouses are lighted aids to navigation, but not all lighted aids are considered to be lighthouses.

Some definitions are not controversial. An aid to navigation is a structure placed on or near navigable water to provide visual guidance to mariners. A beacon is an aid to navigation that is fixed in place (that is, not floating). A lighted beacon or lightbeacon is a beacon displaying a light, while an unlit beacon is called a daybeacon. Often, a lighted beacon is simply called a light.

In this Directory, a lighthouse is a lightbeacon having a height of at least 4 meters (13 ft) and a cross-section, at the base, of at least 4 square meters (43 sq ft). This simple definition does not require that a lighthouse have any particular form or appearance. The structure of a lighthouse may be enclosed, partially enclosed, or completely open.

License Plate - Piano Keyboard

Musical keyboard
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A musical keyboard is the set of adjacent depressible levers or keys on a musical instrument, particularly the piano. Keyboards typically contain keys for playing the twelve notes of the Western musical scale, with a combination of larger, longer keys and smaller, shorter keys that repeats at the interval of an octave. Depressing a key on the keyboard causes the instrument to produce sounds, either by mechanically striking a string or tine (piano, electric piano, clavichord); plucking a string (harpsichord); causing air to flow through a pipe (organ); or strike a bell (carillon). On electric and electronic keyboards, depressing a key connects a circuit (Hammond organ, digital piano, synthesizer). Since the most commonly encountered keyboard instrument is the piano, the keyboard layout is often referred to as the “piano keyboard”.

This license plate sign makes a great gift for any musical person.
