Cleaning a Tin Sign

posted by SignMeOn @ 17:33 PM
June 16, 2009

Buying a retro tin sign can add a nice flavor to your home.  After all, vintage and retro looks are all the range, particularly in home décor.  Have you seen how much old diner tables and chairs go for on the internet?  A pretty penny, that’s what.

Getting nostalgic tin signs are a good start, but you want to make sure that you clean them well.  Instead of using a heavy amount of water or cleaning solution, simply taking a lightly damp rag or a try paper towel should suffice when cleaning a tin sign, so as to not cause any damage to your piece of wall art.

Decorating Your Dorm Room

posted by SignMeOn @ 12:20 PM
May 1, 2009

Moving into your first college dorm room or apartment away from home is a great opportunity to assert your independence. And if you’re looking for a creative way to show the world what makes you unique, one of the first things you should look into is a complete redecoration of your room. (Just make sure you aren’t stepping on your roommate’s toes when you fill the room with these various decorations and ornamentations.)

For the old soul, one of the easiest ways to give your room a shot of throwback nostalgia is by putting up any number of retro soda pop signs. Depicting classic advertisements of Coca-Cola, A&W, and more, these signs make fun and quirky additions to any room. Place one prominent sign in your room or pair several together. Whatever look you’re going for, you’re sure to be the envy of the dorm floor with all your retro decorations.

Old Products Make New Collectibles

posted by SignMeOn @ 15:20 PM
April 27, 2009

More than a generation ago, a lot of products we still use today were already being sold. Many were housed in tin containers, which have now become prized collectibles. Some collectors focus on specific brands of goods such as Coca Cola, while others look for a certain kind of product, such as coffee.

These collectors also purchase reproduction advertising signs to go with their tin collections. If you are just a beginner, decide what you would like your collection to contain and look like. Figure out how you would use them to decorate your home. You can also look into collecting pieces that may become more valuable over time.

Avoiding Fraud Through Safe Shopping By Jeff Mueller

Avoiding Fraud Through Safe Shopping
By Jeff Mueller
Online fraud is an increasing problem that can be
avoided. Every year more and more people shop
online, and every year seems to bring more ways
to trick unsuspecting buyers. This report was
written to help protect you as a consumer.

Following the guidelines set in this report will
protect you from most types of online fraud, and
help you recover in the event that you are taken
advantage of.

——————-

Before You Buy

——————-

Before you buy anything online, review the
store’s refund policy. Make sure they will accept
returns on defective or wrong items. Also, see
how long the return period is, usually, it is 30
days.

Review the store’s privacy policy. You want to
know that your information is being handled
responsibly before giving it to anyone.

——————-

During Check Out

——————-

Plastic or plastic? During the checkout process
you will be given a few payment options. Of
these, you will probably see credit or charge
cards. As you know, if someone accepts credit
cards, they also accept debit cards. Debit cards
are not the same when it comes to limiting your
liability for fraudulent use. Debit cards are
fine for most things, but not online purchasing.

Credit or charge cards are the ideal way to pay
online. If you pay by credit or charge card
online, your transaction is protected by the
Fair Credit Billing Act. Under this law, you have
the right to dispute charges under certain
circumstances and temporarily withhold payment
while the creditor is investigating the disputed
charges. In the event of unauthorized use of your
credit or charge card, you generally would only
be held liable for $50 worth of the charges.

Some credit companies even offer an online
shopping guarantee that ensures you will not be
held responsible for any unauthorized charges
made online, and some may provide additional
warranty, return and/or purchase protection
benefits.

Double check everything. Make sure your billing,
contact, and email addresses are correct and
yours. You don’t want your purchases delivered to
someone else.

Always ensure that the checkout is being
completed on a secure server. You can tell if a
server is a secure server by the web address, it
should begin with an https://. In addition, the
bottom of your browser should contain a padlock
image.

——————-

After the purchase

——————-

Always keep a record. You should receive a
receipt or invoice after your payment. If you do
not, politely request one from the vendor.

Be sure to save this receipt, you will need it as
a proof of purchase if the item is defective and
needs to be returned, or was never received.

——————-

Ongoing Precautions

——————-

You should regularly check your credit card and
bank statements for any unauthorized payments. If
you notice anything that you did not authorize,
be sure to notify your credit card company or
bank immediately.

Some malicious applications will rest on your
computer, and send your private information to
someone else. This is a common cause of identity
theft. For this reasons, you should always run
the latest version of your antivirus program with
the most recently updated databases. You should
also run spyware removal programs regularly.

——————-

Conclusion

——————-

Following the guidelines outlined in this report
should lead to a satisfying online experience.
The only identity theft victims are people that
don’t know or follow safe shopping practices.

Fireman

posted by pbwethy @ 10:00 AM
December 9, 2008

My husband is a fireman. Sometimes when the tones go off I dread what kind of call he’s going on. Like Sunday night,  we just sat down to dinner when the tones went off for a accident which was a roll over. They never seem to happen at a good time.

Then I got to looking at the plaque on the wall in our hall way with the fireman’s prayer. Then I thought of the fireman’s  window sun catcher. It made me remember why he does what he does and how many lives he’s touched during his career.

Catch The Sun

suncatchers

Every wonder what those little reflective glass or pearlescent pieces hanging in windows are? They are called suncatchers and they are hung indoors to “catch the light” from a nearby source like a widow or skylight. These were first made the American Indians in the southwest; it is also in the southwest region that suncatchers gained their popularity.

These little trinkets may be mass manufactured, or hand-crafted. Their varieties may vary from a simple arts and crafts project to a professionally made, delicate work of art. Sometimes suncatchers have wind chimes. Suncatchers with chimes make soothing sounds and are pleasing to look at.
